A  warm welcome from Julia

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to an ethical code which assures safety and professionalism throughout our therapeutic journey together.  Accreditation is a quality status for experienced practitioners who are able to demonstrate high standards of competent and ethical practice.

My core beliefs are to work with warmth, confidentiality and in a non-judgemental manner.  A vision in supporting you to recognise the way in which you individually relate and build the relationships which surround you.

Together we will work towards discovering a deeper understanding of who you are and why you act and react the way you do to people and in certain situations. I believe that this understanding can lead to a fuller, lighter and happier life.

I use the Person-Centred approach to build up a therapeutic relationship with my clients and then introduce other therapies to best suit you.

Importantly, we will work in a manner which feels comfortable whether this is by introducing creative intervention work or simply sharing the emotional load safely together through talking, listening and reflection.

Often someone can feel that counselling is only necessary when they arrive at a crisis point, but my belief is that it can support with many different issues which can pop up in our everyday world.

Our first session together will offer you the opportunity to see how things feel, agree potential focus areas and to explore how we can work in alliance.

Focus area of development for 2024: I am an EMDR therapist in training (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).  This enables me to facilitate EMDR to support the reprocessing of targeted life events such as:

* Phobias

* Work place conflict which has created a negative self belief

* A singular difficult life event such as an accident which has led to symptoms / indicators of PTSD.

Location

I currently access two bespoke work spaces.  In person counselling is hosted within a counselling suite at Queens House (central Barnstaple).  These premises offer nearby car parking and are wheel chair accessible.  Importantly this facility may offer you an ideal separation from any home environment.

Additionally, I have created a counselling booth specifically for my online work.  Wherever you may be located, I invite you to share this soothing virtual space.
